I-pod Raffle for Donations to Cancer Camp
May 2, 2008 12:32 pm UncategorizedThis is a copy of my post at This Eclectic Life. I don’t think y’all read both!
I was hoping for a knight in shining armor this morning, as I sat with my coffee in the darkness on the porch. My dream was fading. I needed help, but couldn’t find what I sought: something BIG to get
you to donate. So, I was trying to decide how to gracefully back out of raising money for Camp Sanguinity cancer camp.
I was discouraged!
All of this week, I approached local merchants asking for donations so I could have a raffle, but was met by a polite wall of “no.” The economy is just too scary right now, and (though they liked the cause) the merchants couldn’t contribute. I didn’t see how in the world I could keep trying, while I struggle to get my life in balance.
[You are supposed to be helping me by participating in a group writing project, and none of you have said a word.]
On the brink of giving up, I opened my e-mail.
Who needs a stinkin’ “knight in shining armor,” when you have Jessica The Rock Chick on your side?
She stepped out of her glimmering white limousine in her black stiletto cat boots with Jon Bon Jovi at her side…
Wait.
That’s a dream Jessica had.
Actually, she was probably barefoot in her pajamas. She drives a stinky mommy van (hey, she admits that it literally stinks), and she only stalks Bon Jovi. Still, she has saved my day.
That generous gal decided to have a raffle to help Camp Sanguinity (and to celebrate her 2nd Bloggiversary).
You can win a 1GB Apple iPod Shuffle!

She will even let YOU pick the color!
ALL you have to do is:
- donate by paypal or check (Tucker’s Camp Sanguinity Fund 2008, P.O. Box 2241, Denton, TX 762020,
or click that banner at the bottom of this post to donate through PayPal. Jessica has a button on her blog post, too. - write a post linking to her post (you could link to my first post about it, too, so people know why they are donating!),
- and make a commenton Jessica’s post, so she knows you are there
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.
AND Jessica sweetens the pot! Well, her fabulous daughter, the one and only supertalented Samantha Hollywood (whose heart is as big as her mother’s), owner of Fashionably Late Layouts, does. She will make you a custom MySpace layout for a $10 donation to the fund. How cool is that? If you donate $10.00 or more and would like a custom MySpace layout for you or anyone, please email Jessica at jessicatherockchick[AT]yahoo[dot]com and she will hook you up.
There you have it. A chance to win big for yourself AND help send a child to cancer camp.
Thank you, Sweet Jessica and Samantha. You have made my day. Y’all are better than a knight in shining armor any day of the week.
And, Happy Bloggiversary, Rock Chick. Rock on!!

Hi Shelly - tried to post the following comment on Jessica’s blog about 25 times just now but Google security wouldn’t let me for some unknown reason - even though I use it all the time:
Donated thru Paypal just now. I don’t have a blog but have spread the word on a bunch of forums - hopefully the word will spread! Don’t want to leave my ID info for the world to see but I am one of Shelly’s afghan “put em together” gals (I am rimming afghan squares as we speak!)so she has my addresses. Thanks so much for helping with this most worthwhile cause.

I’m a little confused by the project. I stumbled onto your old site first, thought what a cool project, having just sent off a stack of squares yesterday for another worthy project was about to jot this one down for the next thing to do…then noticed it said you had all the squares you needed.
The idea to have a ghan or quilt on a campers bed is one I’ve helped with before by donating to Victory Gang Junction. So, then I wondered if your camp was one of The Hole in The Wall Camps started by Paul Newman, he has quite a few around the country. After following the link to your camp, I determined it’s not one of the Hole in The Wall Camps. How cool to know others exists to help kids. (had a niece who spent an entire year in the hospital with her horrific cancer). But, as I tried to learn a little more about your camp, I noticed nothing on the site is any newer or more up to date than 2004-05. That made me question if they’re still around, have a new website?
I’m not questioning your cause, as it’s one that touches my heart; but I always check out charities before I make commitments. Sadly, have had a few bad experiences with people saying things are going to charities when they didn’t. I think the only way around that is to check places out to know they are a true charity etc.
Loved looking at the pictures of all the ghans. In one of your posts you mention, people locally would help you peace them together; but I see lots of them were pieced together in other places. I assume you must have been mailing squares to every corner of this big country. I’ve been at the receiving end of that for some other groups and helped assemble them. It takes lots of helping hands for sure. What a nice effort.
Is this to be an ongoing project? That is each year, does the camp have a committment to carry this through? They should mention this on their website, helps spread the word and lend credibility.
Anxious to hear back from you on either of my blogs regarding the camp and the future of the project.
Have a super day,
Sandy
